DEMING – Authorities in Las Cruces are searching for a suspect following an attempted kidnapping near the New Mexico State University campus, raising awareness about personal safety for residents across the region, including those in Deming.
According to a Campus Safety Alert issued by New Mexico State University, the incident occurred Tuesday night around 11:15 p.m. near Arrowhead Drive and Sam Steel Way.
Police say a man described as a white or Hispanic male with long, dark, wavy hair and facial hair attempted to pull a woman into his vehicle while she was jogging in the area. The woman was able to break free, and the suspect fled in a grey sedan.
The NMSU Police Department is increasing patrols in response and is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Officials are also reminding the public to remain alert, particularly during nighttime hours, and to be aware of surroundings when walking or exercising alone.
