One Dead, One Injured in Shooting at Holloman Air Force Base Near Alamogordo

DEMING – A shooting at Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo on Tuesday evening left one person dead and another injured, according to military officials.

The incident prompted a lockdown at approximately 5:30 p.m. after reports of an active shooter near the base convenience store, also known as the shopette. Officials with the 49th Wing confirmed that emergency personnel responded quickly to the situation.

The injured individual was transported for medical treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the base was secure and the lockdown was lifted.

“Emergency personnel are responding to the situation and there is no threat at this time,” officials said in a statement.

The base convenience store has been closed until further notice.

At this time, officials have not released the identities of those involved or additional details about what led to the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.

Holloman Air Force Base, located just southwest of Alamogordo in southern New Mexico, spans approximately 93 square miles and is home to the 49th Wing, which supports national security operations and includes combat-ready airmen and guardians.

Officials are asking the public to avoid speculation and to direct any questions to the 49th Wing Public Affairs Office.
