Lee Mural in Downtown Deming Being Restored by Local Artist

DEMING – A piece of Deming’s visual history is being brought back to life thanks to the work of a local artist and educator.

Deming MainStreet recently announced that board member and art teacher Jesse Kriegel has begun restoring the historic Lee mural located in the alley between Hearts Desire and The Chop Shop in downtown Deming. The faded brick advertisement, which has been part of the area’s character for many years, is now receiving careful restoration work to return it to its original appearance.

Kriegel has painted numerous murals throughout the community and is well known for using his artistic talents to highlight local history and culture. His work can be seen on the side of the former Radio Shack building, at Luna County Courthouse Park, and at several other locations around Deming and Luna County.

Deming MainStreet officials say they are grateful for the talent and dedication Kriegel brings to projects like this one, noting that his work continues to help preserve the community’s historic charm while making downtown more vibrant.

Once completed, the restored Lee mural will once again serve as a visible reminder of Deming’s past and an example of how local art can help keep that history alive.
