New Leadership at the Helm of New Mexico State Police

DEMING – New Mexico State Police will soon have new leadership following the retirement announcement of its current chief.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Deputy Chief Matt Broom to serve as the interim chief of the New Mexico State Police. Broom will take over the position after Chief Troy Weisler announced earlier this week that he will retire.

Broom brings more than two decades of experience to the role. During his 24 years with the New Mexico State Police, he has overseen major investigations including narcotics operations, crimes against children cases, and other significant law enforcement efforts across the state.

Along with the leadership change, Capt. Bryan Waller has been promoted to serve as deputy chief. Waller has earned several commendations during his career with the department, including the Medal of Valor.

State officials say the appointments will help ensure continuity of leadership and operations within the New Mexico State Police as the transition takes place.
