City Council to Weigh Land Sale, Street Closure and Water Study Funding Tuesday

DEMING – The Deming City Council will meet Tuesday evening with a full agenda that includes funding resolutions, proclamations, and two public hearings involving land use and property transactions.

Councilors will consider approving minutes from their September 23 regular meeting and the September 22 Planning and Zoning Commission session, along with a resolution for participation in the state Transportation Project Fund Program, administered by the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Three proclamations are planned for the evening — Extra Mile Day, Veterans Day, and Lung Cancer Awareness Month — each recognizing community service, military contributions, and health awareness across the city.

A key item on the agenda is a resolution authorizing an application for funding from the New Mexico Environment Department for a project titled “Deming Brackish Water Supply Feasibility Study.” The proposed study aims to explore the potential of utilizing brackish groundwater sources to strengthen Deming’s long-term water security.

The council will also hold two public hearings. The first concerns an ordinance to vacate a portion of 12th Street between West Pine and Spruce Streets, determining whether the move serves the public interest. The second involves an ordinance approving a purchase and sale agreement with BW Gas & Convenience Holdings, LLC, authorizing the sale of municipal real property and allowing the city manager to execute the agreement.

Following the hearings, the meeting will conclude with the city manager’s report before adjournment.

All Deming City Council meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend or follow updates through local media and city channels.
