Statement from WNMU Board of Regents on Special Audit Findings

DEMING – The Western New Mexico University Board of Regents has officially accepted the findings and final report from a special audit conducted by the New Mexico Office of the State Auditor.

According to university officials, WNMU has launched a comprehensive review and modernization of several major policies, including the Travel Policy and Procedures, Procurement Policy, Anti-Donation Policy, Board of Regents Conflict of Interest, and the President Spouse/Domestic Partner Travel Policy.

University leaders said the updates demonstrate WNMU’s early and ongoing commitment to strengthening transparency, governance, and fiscal accountability across all operations.

“As stewards of public trust, we take seriously our responsibility to manage resources wisely while remaining dedicated to providing transformational education and training that empower our students and uplift communities,” the statement read.

The Board expressed gratitude to the New Mexico Higher Education Department, the Office of the Governor, and the State Auditor for their cooperation and support as WNMU continues its 132-year mission of serving students and communities throughout the region.
