Deming man arrested in knife assault dispute

DEMING – A Deming man is facing charges after police say he pulled a knife during an argument over a stolen bicycle.

According to the Deming Police Department, the incident happened at Silver Linings, located at 214 South Copper Street. Investigators say 65-year-old Alberto Elias and another man got into a heated dispute that quickly escalated. Witnesses told officers that Elias allegedly produced a knife and swung it at the 70-year-old victim.

Two witnesses at the scene confirmed the victim’s account, and officers arrested Elias. He has been formally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. Police say the case remains under investigation, but they described the arrest as straightforward based on the witness statements.
