DEMING – The Deming High School all-girl cheer team is being recognized for a season of hard work, resilience, and commitment after earning runner-up honors in the 2026 Class 4A NMAA State Cheer competition.
Team members and coaches say the season was anything but easy. It included early mornings, late nights, long practices, and repeated routine changes that required the squad to keep adjusting and pushing forward. Despite the obstacles and sacrifices along the way, the team remained committed to its goals and stepped onto the mat at state competition with determination, earning a second-place finish.
The achievement reflects more than just a strong performance at state. Cheerleaders often spend much of the year working behind the scenes, supporting other Deming High School athletic programs, representing the school at events, and giving their time to community activities, all while continuing to train for their own season. From June through March, the team balanced those demands while continuing to grow and improve.
Deming High officials said they are proud of the way the team represented the school through both the high points and the challenges of the season, noting that growth and progress are not always easy, but are always meaningful.
The team also expressed gratitude to the families, school staff, and community members who supported them throughout the year, saying that encouragement from the community played an important role in the team’s journey.
A special thank-you was also extended to choreographer Alex Villalobos for his time, creativity, and dedication in helping the team grow and adapt throughout the season.
