DEMING – The youngest members of the Deming Lions baseball family brought home big smiles and a proud finish this weekend, as the U5 T-Ball team was crowned Silver Champions at the USSSA Bataan Death March tournament in Las Cruces.

Competing against teams from across the region, the Lions showed determination, teamwork, and plenty of heart on the field. Coaches and parents cheered from the sidelines as the young athletes hustled after every ball, swung with confidence, and celebrated each run with excitement that captured the spirit of youth sports.

The Bataan Death March tournament is a well-known event in southern New Mexico, drawing teams from multiple communities and providing an opportunity for players to learn sportsmanship and build friendships while competing in a fun, family-friendly environment. For many of the Deming Lions players, it was their first experience in a tournament setting.

Team supporters say the Silver Championship finish is a testament to the players’ enthusiasm and the dedication of coaches and families who helped guide them throughout the season. More importantly, the weekend created lasting memories for the children as they experienced the joy of teamwork and accomplishment at an early age.

Community members are encouraged to congratulate the Deming Lions U5 T-Ball team for representing Deming with pride and for reminding everyone that success in youth sports is measured not only in trophies, but in smiles, confidence, and the love of the game.
