DEMING — Drivers traveling along New Mexico Highway 26 should plan for significant delays as roadway rehabilitation work continues between mile marker 0 at the U.S. 180 intersection and mile marker 10.
Mountain States Constructors, Inc. is continuing the project, and motorists are urged to reduce speed and obey all traffic control devices while crews are working. A temporary traffic signal, flagging operations, and a pilot car are in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with speed limits reduced to 35 miles per hour or lower.
Officials say traffic control operations are experiencing longer-than-normal wait times, with current delays ranging from 30 to 45 minutes. Drivers are asked to remain patient and wait for the pilot car to safely guide traffic through the work zone.
Oversize and overweight loads are not permitted on NM 26 during the project, and commercial vehicles are requested to seek alternate routes.
Construction crews are scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the possibility of weekend work depending on conditions. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution while traveling through the construction area.
