Deming Tees Up Regional Spotlight as Golfweek AM Tour Selects Rio Mimbres as Tournament Host

DEMING – The City of Deming is set to welcome a major regional sports event after the Golfweek AM Tour officially selected Rio Mimbres Golf Course as the host site for an upcoming tournament in early February.

City officials say the event will draw competitive amateur golfers from across New Mexico and the greater El Paso–Las Cruces region, putting Deming in the spotlight as a destination for regional sports tourism. The Golfweek AM Tour is a nationally recognized amateur circuit where players earn points at local and regional events toward qualification for larger championships.

Community Services Director Azucena Vargas said the selection reflects ongoing investment in the course and strong collaboration between the City, Luna County, and partners such as the Rio Mimbres Golf Course Pro Shop. She noted the recognition highlights the course as a competitive and desirable venue for high-quality amateur play.

Golf Pro Shop Manager Buzz Perales said the tournament is expected to attract more than 50 amateur golfers from across the state, along with visiting players and spectators, providing a boost for local businesses and an opportunity to showcase Deming to guests.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Rio Mimbres Golf Course. Golfers interested in participating can register through the Golfweek AM Tour website. Registration assistance is also available at the Rio Mimbres Golf Course Pro Shop, where staff can help with sign-ups and answer questions. The registration deadline is February 2, 2026, at 10 a.m.
