City of Deming Sets Agenda for January 20 Council Meeting

DEMING — The Deming City Council will hold its regular meeting Tuesday, January 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1275 East Pine Street. The meeting will be available to attend in person, with options for residents to join remotely by phone or online.

According to the published agenda, the meeting will open with a call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a roll call, followed by the nomination and election of a mayor pro tem. Councilors will then move into the consent agenda, which includes approval of minutes from recent City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, Historical Landmark Commission, and Deming Luna County Commission on Aging meetings.

Several resolutions are scheduled for consideration, including adoption of the Open Meetings Act, procurement practices, and public works contract procedures under state law. Councilors will also review items related to traveling and per diem regulations, required Community Development Block Grant certifications and commitments, and a request for records destruction.

Public input will be accepted for up to three minutes per speaker. Additional agenda items include a proclamation recognizing National Engineers Week, a request for approval of an anti-nepotism policy, and multiple job description approvals, including positions for bartender, cook, and an administrative captain within the Fire Department.

The meeting will conclude with departmental and manager’s reports, followed by adjournment. The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for February 17 at 5:30 p.m.
