Winter Relief Funding Brings New Support for Deming’s Homeless

DEMING —The New Mexico Office of Housing has distributed more than $820,000 in emergency winter funding to shelters and service providers across the state, including those serving residents in Deming, to help individuals and families facing homelessness during the coldest months of the year.

The funding is being used to strengthen both new and existing warming centers by providing essential items such as cots, portable heating units, blankets, pillows, sleeping mats, and mattresses, helping ensure that people have safe, warm places to stay when temperatures drop.

Additional support includes upgrades to kitchen appliances and food storage areas, along with the purchase of winter clothing, hygiene supplies, and baby care products. These resources are intended to improve daily operations and expand the ability of shelters and service organizations to meet increased winter demand.

All funded activities are focused on improving winter service delivery and helping those who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness receive immediate, life-sustaining support. The investment is designed to provide stability, safety, and dignity for vulnerable individuals and families across New Mexico, including right here in Deming, during a season when the need is greatest.
