DEMING – City of Deming police officials are stepping up enforcement efforts in response to a growing number of speeding motorcycle incidents on city streets, citing concerns for public safety.
According to a public service announcement issued this week by Police Chief Sergio Lara, excessive motorcycle speeding has become an increasing problem, putting riders, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists at risk. Police say ignoring speed limits significantly raises the likelihood of serious accidents and injuries.
To address the issue, the Deming Police Department will increase patrols in areas known for high-speed activity and will take enforcement action against reckless motorcycle riders. These actions may include traffic citations, towing, and impounding motorcycles involved in violations.
Police are also asking for the public’s help. Residents who witness reckless or dangerous motorcycle behavior are encouraged to report it to Central Dispatch at 575-546-0354. Riders are urged to follow traffic laws and be mindful of the safety of others.
City officials say the goal of the enforcement effort is not punishment, but prevention — keeping Deming’s streets safe and maintaining the quality of life for residents.
The announcement was released January 6 from the Deming Police Department as part of an ongoing effort to reduce traffic-related risks in the community.
