DEMING – Local law enforcement agencies were kept busy over the weekend with several arrests, property crimes, and one gun-related injury under investigation. According to information provided by the Deming Police Department and the Luna County Detention Center, officers made multiple arrests between Friday and Sunday for a variety of offenses.
Those taken into custody included Diane Wilson, 36, on a charge of drunkenness; Matthew Sanchez, 41, for driving under the influence and use of a telephone to harass; Timothy Edwards, 50, for battery upon a household member; and both Stephanie Morales, 28, and Anna Nogal, 41, for public affray following a fight.
Officers also responded to a reported burglary at 217 ½ South Pearl Street, where losses and damages were estimated at roughly $3,000. In other reports, Carmen Regalado, 45, was cited for shoplifting goods valued under $100 at Walmart, and police investigated an attempted breaking and entering at La Paloma Del Sol Apartments on East Birch Street after slight damage was found to a front door.
Despite the busy weekend, the Deming Police Department’s Annual Candy Drop community event was reported as a success, with only one disturbance—two adult women were arrested after a fight during the festivities.
