DEMING – A 16-year-old Deming boy was hospitalized and later airlifted to El Paso after being shot Saturday evening while walking along West Ash Street, according to information from the Deming Police Department.
Police said the shooting occurred around 8 p.m., when the teen reported hearing a gunshot and then realizing he had been struck in the upper right arm. He ran to the emergency room at Mimbres Memorial Hospital for help. Upon his arrival, hospital staff immediately initiated a lockdown as a security precaution while police secured the area.
Deming Police Captain Jose Montoya confirmed that the teen’s parents were notified right away. “Once our officers were made aware of the situation, we contacted the teen’s parents and coordinated with hospital staff to ensure everyone’s safety,” Montoya said. “The hospital was briefly locked down until officers could confirm there was no ongoing threat.”
The teen was later flown to an El Paso hospital for surgery on his arm. Investigators believe the shooting may have taken place somewhere along West Ash Street, though an exact crime scene has not yet been confirmed. Officers searched the area for evidence but found no suspects or shell casings at the time.
The case remains under active investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Deming Police Department.
