Book Signing and Camp Cody Day Set for Saturday at Deming Luna Mimbres Museum

DEMING – Local history will come to life this weekend at the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum during a special event honoring Camp Cody, one of the most significant military training camps in New Mexico’s history.

On Saturday, July 12th from 10 AM to 2 PM, the museum will host Camp Cody Day, a family-friendly celebration featuring food trucks, games, and fun activities for kids of all ages.

As part of the festivities, author Laura Krol will hold a book signing for her title Images of America: Deming, which explores the rich history of the area—including stories and photos from the Camp Cody era. The signing will take place during the event, offering visitors a chance to meet the author and purchase a signed copy.

Originally established during World War I, Camp Cody was located just outside Deming and served as a major training site for the U.S. Army’s National Guard troops. At its peak, the camp trained thousands of soldiers and left a lasting impact on the region’s military and community history.

The event will take place at the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum, located at 301 South Silver Avenue. Admission is free, and all are invited to attend, enjoy the activities, and learn more about Deming’s unique past.
